Road Trippin’ Fun

Well hello!! It’s been a couple of weeks- oh how the times has flown!

I have since accomplished a EPIC road trip where my bestie and I took our 3 kids down across Southeast Oregon. We’ve been talking about doing something like this for at least 2 years and we finally did it! We started planning it back in March and let’s just say for two people who are very type A, that was too much time for us and we kept adding things to see and visit - Haha!

Read on for all of our stops- we honestly can’t pick just one as our favorite because they were each so unique and memorable in their own way.

~ 1500 miles in 7 days

• Crater Lake

• Tokeetee Falls

• Watson Falls

• Crack in the Ground

• Glass Butte Obsidian Fields

• Cowboy Cabin-Diamond

• Malheur National Wildlife Refuge

• Steens Mountains

• Alvord Desert- racing across the desert at 100 MPH!

• Alvord Desert Hot Spring

• John Day Fossil Beds

• Painted Hills

• Smith Rock

• High Desert Museum

• Sisters

So like I had said in the last blog, we had snacks to the exponential power of like 20 because we knew that we were going out into no man’s land and that the nearest grocery store would be 40 miles away with major backtracking, and well, we didn’t want a Donner party on our hands, lol.

So, we loaded up on groceries in Burns that we knew we could make with our limited ammendities of a gas grill and a microwave at the Cowboy Cabin, which consisted of two days of hot dogs, grilled corn and bagged salads. We did oatmeal in the morning, and always had the fixin’s for pb&j picnic lunches. It all worked well and we are still working our way through the snack bags two weeks later…so we still have that going for us.

I of course brought my own gluten and dairy friendly snacks that included meat sticks, and protein bars, protein oatmeal, tortilla chips, trail mix sans M&M’s (insert 😢 here), and fresh fruit and veggies. I also was smart enought to pack my own bagels, and hot dog buns ahead of time as I didn’t think I’d find my gf/df stuff in the boonies.

Ok, ok- if I HAD to tell you my favorite place it’d be the Obsidian fields, with the Crack in the Ground as a close second. I got lost for like 2 hrs in the tranquility of finding the perfect stones, and I ended up findng two sets of bookends that have the most beautiful swirls of sharp AF black glass…I mean look at the look on my face as I hold those rock ya’ll, just saying I found enormous ones after that and now they sit on my desk holding up my notebooks full of all my hopes and dreams- they have a big job to do…

Well, that’s the road trip, have you ever done one? I’d love to hear where your adventures have taken you!
