I Have Mixed Drinks About Feelings

There is something incredibly sexy about holding a glass of wine while staring out over the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean…

I just finished my term, and let me tell you the burnout I hit this week felt like I’d gotten hit the proverbial Mac Truck. I laid in bed on Tuesday, having sworn I’d stay committed to walking my 15,000 steps, and doing mobility work while taking a much-needed break from the gym.

Alas, I haven’t done either my mobility work nor walked my normal 15k steps–– I have instead enjoyed binging a tv show and putting around on some new and exciting stuff for a is for avocados, reminding myself that I am not a robot and indeed experiencing a very human condition, namely full blown exhaustion. I realized that I hadn’t scheduled an easy de-load week at the gym in a while as I had intended, and so a nice chill week has ensued.

At the end of my terms, I try to take myself out to a nice lunch, including a glass of wine. I take my noise-canceling headphones and just sit in my own little world for a bit. After 15 years of living here, I am still mesmerized by this magical place.

So this week’s blog is not a nugget of nutrition info, but one of me enjoying delicious morsels of a well-earned solo dining experience.

Now, I don’t drink all that much when I am home, preferring to enjoy my calories and macros in a way that supports my athletic endeavors, however, sipping an oak-ey chardonnay while gazing out over the Pacific Ocean just can’t be beat, and this topic ties in nicely with last weeks blog post on alcohol so here we are.

When you combine a nutrition major, soon to be a registered dietitian, and the topic of alcohol I bet many people cringe inwardly, anticipating a rebuke, but with me, that’s not the case.

A delightful lunch of wild caught grilled salmon, white rice and with a lovely warm basil vinagerette and sauteed grape tomatoes.

So, here’s my personal philosophy on drinking & to quote my husband’s Gram, “I just want one drink, so make it a good one!”

Same Gram, same.

So unless I’m on a vacation somewhere (ahem, Kauai), I don’t drink much but I do enjoy an occasional beverage when the mood strikes (I see you Friday) and I try to find a nice balance that works for me.

I invite you to do the same. 🥑
